Pocket Ape is the alias of Rufus Murphy, a musician from North Yorkshire. Using twisted and sliced field recordings and samples, along with heavily processed drum loops and frenetic gabber kicks, Pocket Ape blends and deconstructs influences ranging from musique concrète and noise through to hip-hop and hardcore. Their performances aim to conjure surreal sound-worlds and elastic rhythms rooted in spontaneity and improvisation. In June 2025 they released a compilation of live sets entitled LIVE APE, which is available on Bandcamp.
